I was inspired to set this text after singing another setting as a chorister at the Washington National Cathedral. I wanted to create a similar sense of ethereal beauty with a floating soprano solo. While I began composing this as a chorister in high school, I did not finish it until my sophomore year at St. Olaf College. Its message is perfect for any church choir, but the piece also works well in a concert setting.
